In 1978, siblings Finney and Gwen Blake lived in a Denver suburb with their abusive father. A serial child abductor, "The Grabber," terrorizes the area. Finney, bullied at school, is abducted and held in the Grabber's basement. With the help of ghostly victims, Finney attempts escape but faces challenges. Gwen, with psychic dreams, aids the police. Detectives discover the Grabber is Max's brother. Despite failed attempts, Finney learns of an escape route from fellow victims.

Gwen locates the Grabber's hideout, leading to a confrontation. Max's attempt to free Finney ends tragically. In a final showdown, Finney defeats the Grabber using a phone cord. Gwen's tip leads the police to the burial site.
